EV real-world range estimator for United Kingdom
WLTP is a lab number — this estimates how far you will actually get at your temperature, driving style and battery health
Leave blank to use the model estimate. Your car’s long-term trip-computer average in kWh/100 km is the most accurate input — tyres, load and route all move it.
Why is real-world range lower than WLTP?
WLTP is a lab cycle at 23 °C with no air conditioning or heating and only brief higher-speed sections. It is great for comparing cars, but nobody actually drives like that.
Highway speed is the range killer: raising cruising speed from 100 to 120 km/h raises aerodynamic drag with the square of speed and can add 25–35% to consumption. Slow city driving usually beats the WLTP figure.
Cold hurts an EV far more than a petrol car: denser air adds drag and cabin heating draws real energy from the battery. Expect 15–20% off around freezing and 25–30% in a proper cold snap. Preconditioning the cabin while still plugged in recovers most of it.
